BYU vs. Virginia Game

At the end of August we drove to Charlottesville, Virginia to meet up with Matt's parents, Chris and Allison, and Caleb and Katy for the BYU game.  It was so fun!  We all had lunch together before walking to the stadium.  The opening ceremony was pretty cool and included a man riding in full costume on a horse.  Everything looks more cool on a horse!  Around the 2nd quarter was when things got interesting.  Right before half-time we were asked to leave because of a thunderstorm warning.  And I mean EVERYONE.  The whole stadium was evacuated!  Luckily, we found an old apartment building to camp out in that was across the street.  We took shelter for about 2 hours before being let back into the stadium.  It was chaos!  Then, of course, not long after we made it to our seats it began to rain.  Again.  We didn't stay too much longer...

Before we met everyone for lunch Matt and I walked around.  I don't remember what this area is called!  To the left of these buildings was a huge outdoor mall and farmer's market.
The Game!
Waiting out the storm.
These two pictures are from Allison's camera.
P.S. I'm 3 months pregnant here.  Can you tell??

Sorry about the wonky videos.  They'll be fixed later.  All of the above pictures and videos were taken on our ipad.

Summer Catch-Up

Here are a few random pictures and videos we took over the summer...

Shortly after getting back from PA to celebrate the G'parents Anniversary, we celebrated my birthday...without electricity.  For several days we were without power!  It.  Was.  Awful.  In addition to no power we also had no hot water.  For the first day we didn't take showers.  By the end of day 2, we gave in and experienced the coldest (and probably fastest) showers of our lives.  It was a memorable birthday week!

During the "black-out"; eating Frosty's while watching a movie on the ipad.  Thank goodness we had an ipad!!
With the flash on.  Everything looks almost normal here.  But it wasn't.
Matt wearing a new dress shirt he got from his mom for his B-day.  Doesn't he look so handsome and grown-up?  The answer is YES.
We've had the sister misisonaries over A LOT since we've moved here.  We love them.  They bring such a sweet spirit into our home.  I can't help but think of Julia whenever I see them.  For one of our meals together I went full-on Mexican!  We had pork simmered in a homemade mole sauce, Mexican rice, tortillas, homemade salsa, chips, salad with peppers, avocados, toasted pumpkin seeds, cotija cheese, and homemade cilantro-lime dressing.  It was delicious!
For dessert we had lemon mousse, strawberry compote and fresh whipped cream.
FYI, we found out I was pregnant two days after I made this meal (which was right after our "black out").  The constant nausea immediately followed.  What was once amazing and delicious food now made me want to vomit!  Even the smell of leftovers heating in the microwave made my stomach turn.  Poor Matt had to eat ALL the leftovers by himself.

We went to a Greek Festival and had some of the best Gyro's we've ever had!  When we sat down to eat there was a small band playing.  Following the band a group of teenagers performed some traditional Greek dances.

Grandparents 65th Anniversary Party

This past weekend we were in PA (again!) to attend my grandparents 65th anniversary party (as well as Grandma Martha's 90th birthday).  My dad and his brother planned the event which was held at the First United Methodist Church of Hanover that Bob and Martha go to.  We had such a lovely time!

Sorry about some of the pictures being blurry and looking green.  We did not use the flash very often.  Plus, the interior of the room was mostly green; hence, the green hue in most of the pictures.

Rob and Staci put together a beautiful video which you can see here. It's a great slide show of pictures with music, representing the development of Bob and Martha's relationship. Very sweet and touching.

Here I am talking with my great Uncle George, oldest child of the Perry family (91 years old, I think).

Chris and Allison, the newly weds in the group, with a picture of a young Bob Martin.

Bob and Martha speaking with Joe Green of Rochester, NY. Joe is a cousin on the Martin side.

Uncle Michael on left with sport jacket. Don't know two other guys but I believe they are related to Aunt Ellen. Then Dad, of course.

Julia and Chris holding up Grandma :)

"Try to kiss me again and you'll be singing happy birthday with the fishes." (We both look like we are wearing lipstick for some reason).

Just kidding! We're BFF!

Bob's friend Ed telling Julia stories.  He then made a flag out of a napkin!

You can see Uncle George again, this time sitting next to Aunt Nancy.

Watching the video from Rob and Staci.

Great picture of Bob Martin looking at the camera.

There were several old pictures brought to the celebration as table decorations. I took the chance to get digital copies of each of them.

And sons

This one is an OLD one and includes Clarence Martin (youngest boy here) with his brother Paul and both parents, Milton and Nancy. Clarence was the father of Bob Martin, whose first name is actually Clarence.
